If they do, all of their existing castles and villages go to your side and become apart of your overall power and influence. You then have the option of charming them to join your kingdom.
When you next see that ruler on the battlefield, speak to them rather than outright attacking them. If they’re nearby, go ahead and conquer them to secure the option.
